It's Not Surprising that Michael Jackson CD Sales are Soaring

By Melody Peterson

Some three weeks after the death of Michael Jackson, people are still eager to own a piece of the man who brought so much into their lives. It is for this reason that sales of Michael Jackson cd's are breaking records the world over; again. This was something the world got very much used to throughout the seventies, eighties, and early part of the nineties; but not since.

Whilst interest is high in all Jackson memorabilia, it is the magic he gave through his music and dance that loyal fans have always been most interested in.

And break the records they do. Within days of the tragic news, hits such as Man In The Mirror, had shot to the top of playlists and music store charts. The fourth single released from the 1987 Bad album, Man In The Mirror was not actually publically acclaimed first time round. However, with the lyrics possibly summing up people's feelings to his death, it has fast become the track of choice globally.

These albums themselves have shot to the top of charts across the globe too; and this in spite of huge logistical issue in getting enough demand to the stores in the first instance.

It wasn't just in CD format that records were broken however. In this ever digital age, Jackson reached the top of the Apple iTunes download charts in the US, and Britain, Europe, Australia, Canada and New Zealand simultaneously, suggests a younger generation of buyers are equally eager to purchase the star's music.

Whilst Jackson's music in all formats continues to sell well, the public preference does seem to be for Michael Jackson cd's. Whether this is due to the age of those most likely to buying his music, or simply to own a tangible memento from the King of Pop is unclear. However, it is with grim irony that the turnover in sales is what the star and his team had planned when announcing his "This Is It" tour.

Currently of course, fans only have the back catalog and compilation albums to satisfy their thirsts. However, sounds recently coming from AEG, (the promotion company in charge of the concerts), suggest new material could be made available in time for Christmas 2009.

Possibly first to be released will be footage and music from the final dress rehearsal session at the Staples Center LA. The DVD will no doubt race to the top of the charts, whilst the Michael Jackson cd's of what is, in essence, his final ever performance will possibly become the greatest seller of all time, never to be beaten.
